Dean Reed, an open and liberal scoundrel Solzhenitsyn
It is amazing how these words are still relevant today. The letter was written 40 years ago, and so far it has not lost its relevance. None of the writers of the Soviet era has not caused such huge damage to the reputation of the Soviet Union, Solzhenitsyn. The whole of Europe was reading the book, where the Soviet Union was like one big prison. It was Solzhenitsyn's books have made a considerable contribution to the collapse of the country, for which he received a Nobel Prize.
However, in capitalist America there were people who were able to look through the prism of the lies and see the essence. Dean Rin - American singer, film actor, film director and social activist, back in the 71 th year published an open letter to Alexander Solzhenitsyn, in which the actor called the charges against Solzhenitsyn USSR false.
Text of the letter:
Dear fellow art Solzhenitsyn!
I, as an American artist, should answer some of your accusations, published capitalist media all over the world. In my opinion, they are false accusations, and the nations of the world need to know why they are false.
You denounced the Soviet Union as "deeply sick society, stricken with hatred and injustice." You say that the Soviet government "could not live without enemies, and the whole atmosphere is saturated with hatred, and hatred again, not stopping even to racial hatred." You must be talking about my homeland, not his!
Indeed, it is America, not the Soviet Union, fighting wars and creating a tense situation of possible wars in order to enable their economies to act, and our dictators, military-industrial complex acquire more wealth and power in the blood of the Vietnamese people, our own American soldiers and all freedom-loving peoples of the world! Sick society in my country, and not you, Mr. Solzhenitsyn! It is America, not the Soviet Union, became the most violent society that is ever known in the history of mankind. America, where the mafia has more economic power than the largest corporations, and where our citizens can not walk at night through the streets without fear of criminal attacks.
After all, in the United States, rather than in the Soviet Union as its citizens killed in the period from 1900 more people than the number of US soldiers killed in action in the first and second world wars, as well as in Korea and Vietnam! It is our society considers convenient to kill each and every progressive leader who finds the courage to raise their voice against some of our wrongs. That's what a sick society, Mr. Solzhenitsyn!
Further, you are talking about racial hatred! In America, not in the Soviet Union over the past two centuries, unpunished murders of blacks, which are kept in semi-slavery. In America, not in the Soviet Union, the police indiscriminately beat and arrest any and every black man trying to make a stand for their rights.
Then you say that "freedom of speech, honest and complete freedom of speech - that is the first condition of health of any society, and our well." Try to spread these ideas among the suffering people, forced to fight for survival and to live against their will under the yoke of dictatorial regimes to keep in power only thanks to US military aid.
Tell me about your thoughts to people whose "health" is only in the fact that half of them children die at birth because they have no money for a doctor, and they suffer all his life due to lack of medical care. Tell people about this capitalist world, whose "health" is that all their lives they spend in constant fear of unemployment. Tell the American Negroes, how much they have helped in the case of "health" and "freedom of speech" in their just struggle for equality with whites, when, after two centuries of "freedom of speech in an American" in many areas of the US believe that to kill a nigger - is like having to hunt for a bear! Tell the workers of the capitalist world about your ideas about "freedom of speech as the first health conditions", if, due to lack of money of their sons and daughters will not be able to develop their mental abilities at school, and therefore will never be able even to learn to read! You're talking about freedom of speech, while the majority of the world's population still speaks of the opportunity to learn to read words!
No, Mr. Solzhenitsyn, your definition of freedom of expression as the first health condition is not true. The first condition is to make the country healthy enough morally, mentally, spiritually and physically, so that its citizens could read, write, work and live together in peace.
No, Mr. Solzhenitsyn, I do not accept your first public health conditions and especially in your definition and context. My country, known for its "freedom of speech" - a country where the police attacks on participants of peaceful marches. In my country allow peaceful campaigns, and at the same time, the ongoing war is detrimental impact on the life of the Vietnamese people for demonstrations, of course, does not change the policy of the government. Do you really think that the military-industrial complex, ruling my country and half the world cares about "freedom of speech" ?! Its rulers realize that they, and only they, have the power to make decisions. Indeed, freedom of expression in words, but in deeds!
You also represent that the Soviet Union is not up to the twentieth century. If this is true, because the Soviet Union is always half a step ahead of the twentieth century! Did you offer your people to give up his role as leader and vanguard of all the progressive peoples of the world and return to the inhuman and cruel conditions prevailing in the rest of the world where injustice abounds indeed in an atmosphere of almost feudal conditions in many countries? Mr. Solzhenitsyn, the article further says that you - "a writer suffering from the Soviet Union." Apparently, this means that you are suffering a lot because of the lack of moral and social principles, and that your conscience torments you in the quiet hours of the night when you are alone with yourself. It is true that in the Soviet Union has its injustices and disadvantages, but that's all relative. In principle and in fact, your company is committed to creating a truly healthy and just society. The principles on which to build your society - healthy, clean and fair, while the principles on which our society is built, cruel, selfish and unfair. Obviously, life can be some errors and injustices, but no doubt that a society based on equitable principles, have more opportunities to come to a just society than the society that is based on injustice and exploitation of man by man. Society and the government of my country, behind the times, because their sole purpose is to try to save the world status quo. That your country aims to make progressive steps in the name of humanity, and if something is not perfect, and sometimes stumbles, then we should not be condemned for these shortcomings the whole system, but must welcome her for the courage and the desire to break new ground.
Sincerely, Dean Reed
