It published another suicide work of Stephen Hawking
In May this year we reported on the publication of Stephen Hawking, in which he examines the nature of our universe, and called it part of a larger multiverse. The article was written in collaboration with Belgian colleague Thomas Hertog of the Catholic University of Leuven, but as it turned out, it is not only the latest work of one of the greatest of modern physics. A few days ago it published another work that Hawking could finish in just a few days before his death. An article describing the findings of physics, had to build upon its already co-author, a professor at Cambridge University Malcolm Perry.
The new work is devoted to the so-called Hawking information paradox, a phenomenon that the scientist was trying to resolve the last 40 years and find out what happens to the information in black holes.
In earlier work Hawking said that predictions of Albert Einstein on black holes, proposed among other things, the general theory of relativity in 1915, was incomplete. By Einstein's opinion, black can be completely defined by only three features: mass, charge and spin (intrinsic angular momentum of particle momentum). After 60 years, Hawking has made a suggestion that black holes have their own temperature. According to Hawking, hot objects lose their heat in space, resulting in black holes can evaporate completely and cease to exist. However, this is contrary to the laws of quantum mechanics by which the information can not just disappear. The latter work scientists do not entirely solve the paradox, but it points to the possibility of his explanation.
Published recently an article Hawking and Perry is known as Black Hole Entropy and Soft Hair (entropy of a black hole, and soft hair). Such a strange, at first glance, the title of the article is a reference to the physical "about the no-hair theorem" a black hole, where the "hair" - a metaphorical identification information on the matter to be absorbed by the black hole.
According to the claims of scientists, if you throw an object into a black hole, its temperature must change. This property of physics called entropy - a measure of irreversible energy dissipation. In the new work Hawking speculated about what to write about this change in entropy would remain a large number of photons, which are on the edge of the horizon of the black hole's event and have almost zero energy. Hawking and Perry called these photons are "soft hair".
"This work shows that this soft hair can be judged on what happens to the entropy of a black hole," - commented Malcolm Perry edition of The Guardian.
"We do not know whether the entropy, Hawking proposed really responsible for everything that falls into a black hole. There is still a lot of work to find this out, but we're definitely seeing progress, "- Perry added.
In an interview with the British edition of Perry also said that talking with Stephen Hawking on their studies for a few days before the death of the scientist.
"Stephen at that time was already very difficult to communicate, so we switched to the speakerphone, so that I could explain how far we have come in the calculations. When I finished speaking, Stephen grinned. I just told him that we have seen some progress, but he already knew the final result ", - said Perry.
