How stress alters our brain?

It is unlikely that on this planet there is a man who at least once in his life faced with the phenomenon of stress. Moreover, almost every one of us regularly experience stress in one form or another. However, few people thought about how stress affects our whole body. But researchers from the Swiss to think about it and studying the impact of stress on our brains, came to quite unexpected results.

How stress alters our brain?

What is stress?

To understand what is stress, you might begin to understand what it is. The fact that our body regularly maintains a constant internal environment for the normal of our existence. The simplest example may serve as a body temperature or blood pressure.

So when there is something that "unsettles" our consistency, then there is stress. However, stress is normal we are experiencing almost every minute: our bodies are regularly attacked by viruses and bacteria, you are out on the street on a sunny day and went cold rain, you went for a jog and your heart rate has increased - all this stress on the body. Just as our body is clever, that is able to compensate for these factors. Stress compensation mechanisms inherent in us by nature, and in the stress there is nothing to worry about.

However, there are stressors that the body is able to compensate for not. And then it becomes a problem.

How stress affects the brain

To answer this question, a team of researchers from the University of Zurich, led by Valerio Zerbi decided to genetically engineer the brain of laboratory mice, so that you can selectively control the release of norepinephrine. The fact that the concentration of this substance in the brain always increases in any kind of stress.

After the animals were ready for testing, the scientists induced release of noradrenaline and conducted MRI brain scans of rodents. It turned out that the regular release of norepinephrine changed work neural networks in the areas responsible for processing sensory stimuli, as well as in the amygdala.

All these areas are responsible for processing information and

emotional condition. The fact that people under stress become irritable long been known, but we did not think that the brain damage is so severe. - said Valerio Zerbi.

In this case, the danger, according to the authors, is not so much that stress causes a change in the psycho-emotional sphere, but the fact that due to stress crumbling neural connections in the brain that can lead to serious change a person's identity, and even worsening the state of his mind.
