Dakar Rally. An exciting adventure or violent competition
One day in 1977 in the Libyan desert disappeared French racer Thierry Sabine (he lost by participating in the rally Abidjan - Nice). After three days they found him Tuareg (the local people), and he miraculously managed to survive in such a way. After this incident, Thierry got the idea to organize an annual marathon rally Paris - Dakar. And those who were bored welcome home New Year and painfully long wait for spring, could go to the extreme two-week adventure.
The history of the first rally
On the Trocadero in Paris on December 28, 1978 was given the first start of the Rally Paris - Dakar. It was not easy journey, which was attended by 182 participants (12 freight carriages, 80 cars and 90 motorcycles). To finish successfully got only 74 participants. Distributions by class and category at the first rally was not, so the first three divided between the fastest and the French light on Japanese motorcycles (two "Yamaha" and "Honda"). The first car winning crew of the same French were in English, "Range-Rover" V-8, and consisted of three (pilot, navigator and mechanic). It was the only such case in the history of rally - Dakar raid. Further in crews were only pilot and navigator (or just one pilot). Two years later, in 1980, at the rally had already begun to divide the category winners in the classes of trucks, cars and motorcycles. In 1986, tragically died founder of Dakar - Thierry Sabine.
It helicopter crashed on a dune, hitting in the sudden onset of a sandstorm. Thierry watched one of the stages of the Dakar Rally. On board were the pilot, a French singer, a sports journalist and a radio mechanic. They all died. This is not the only case of death on the Dakar Rally. In the future, the right to host the races moved to his father Thierry, and then the exclusive rights were sold to the company "ASO" French media magnate Philippe Amaury, which to them has to this day.
The unpleasant circumstances
Traditionally, the annual Dakar Rally started in Paris (France), and the finish was in Dakar (Senegal). But since 1995, the start is moved to another city (because of the protests of the Paris government). In 2007, Mauritania killed four French tourists and the French authorities have banned the organizers conduct contests (stage of the Dakar Rally was just in the country where the incident occurred). Start 2008 canceled due to the risk of new terrorist threats. Beginning in 2009, the rally is simply the name of the 'Dakar' and held in South America (postponed indefinitely). Some states also conduct such contests, just under different names. In Africa, the riders held a competition called "Africa Eco-Flight". And in our country is gaining popularity rally "Silk Road" to the Caspian Sea (Moscow - Astrakhan). Rally - Dakar raid - this is an ordeal for pilots, navigators and mechanics of all the teams. Also, over the years it has been reported of deaths of both professional and in the audience, in the ordinary citizens of the country. This, of course, the lack of, but the sport requires sacrifice, it is not sad to realize.
Features of the competition
This competition is exciting and full of surprises. It should be looking card, go on to the memory of the control points. There are hidden for participants check points. Also, different speed limits imposed by the organizers (to avoid additional accidents and rapid engine wear). If the drivers are lost, you are allowed to enter a special code to open the next checkpoint (but for this are given penalty points). For the use of GPS-navigation generally disqualified. Many restrictions and surprises waiting for the riders on the track.
Since 2000, the leaders "Kamaz" truck among the teams and "Tatra". Dakar 2017 is also held in South America (Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay). It has successfully participated and our riders. This year, won among truck Eduard Nikolaev from the team "KAMAZ - Master" (three times already during his career in the Dakar - twice as pilot and once as a mechanic crew), renewing thus interrupted by a series of victories, our well-known pilot - seven-time winner of the Dakar - Vladimir Chagin.
Between 2000 and 2017 Dakar, the team "Kamaz - master" only four times inferior to the podium in this prestigious global rally. This year's victory also won our compatriot Sergey Karjakin (in a new class quad). On his iron horse "Yamaha Raptor 700" it, overcoming distance illness (pneumonia), managed to cross the finish line cherished in the overall standings, finishing in first place. Ministry of Sport, in spite of the already world famous, the personal and the country is still not honored Sergei even a master of sports. Let us hope that in the future the government will do more to help our athletes. And also simple motorists, improving the quality of local roads. After all, as the riders themselves admit that in the desert there are better roads than in their homeland.
