• A new library in Berlin
The new library of the Faculty of Philology at the Free University of Berlin - is the culmination of decades of experimentation and the search for an architectural studio Foster + Partners. Four story building oval shape typical for stadiums, rather than libraries, boasts natural ventilation and glazed aluminum panels supported by steel frames with a radial geometry.
The translucent inner membrane with daylight filters creates an atmosphere concentration, while the random transparent holes allow to pass inward glimpses sunlight. Bookshelves are in the center, and the readers' tables - on the perimeter, at the windows, to create maximum comfort for visitors.
Among the students learn library already nicknamed "The brain of Berlin."
