April 24, 1964 in Copenhagen, The Little Mermaid was beheaded. The first, but, alas, not the last time. Perhaps no other monument in the world, and even so - are not connected with politics, nor with the ideology, not been subjected to so many times vandalized as suffering Danish Little Mermaid.

The scandal with the Little Mermaid has become a universal event: journalists from different countries covered the situation in their publications, the mayor's office of the Danish capital were sending thousands of sympathetic letters and money for the restoration of the statue. Ironically, this contributed to further promotion of the Little Mermaid, and in Denmark a flood of tourists.
In the wave of interest in this subject, journalists contacted Ellen Price, who became the model for the statue. Famous ballerina at that time was already 84 years old, and the picture above are the only ones on which it captured from Little Mermaid. Ellen died 4 years later, in 1968.

In 2007, the Copenhagen authorities decided to move the monument next to the harbor, to avoid repeated incidents of vandalism, as well as prevent the constant attempts of tourists to climb on the sculpture. But the water did not stop the vandals.
