Factory Girl imaginatively unfolds the comet-like rise and fall of 60s "it girl" Edie Sedgwick, the blazing superstar who came to define both the glamour and the tragedy of our celebrity-obsessed culture.

Sedgwick appeared to be the quintessential American princess, with her blue blood, her trust fund and her Harvard education, not to mention her ethereal beauty and vivacious charisma. But she was also a lost and fragile little girl; and when she met up with counter-culture anti-hero Andy Warhol, everything changed.

Suddenly, Edie found herself at the center of a Pop Art universe bursting with sex, drugs, style and rock 'n' roll -- and a mad rush for fame and fabulousness that was destined to spin out of control.

Ingrid Superstar

Ingrid appears in a brief 2 minutes of the entire movie, so not much is known about her. She is, however, an actress with a huge attitude problem and a sharp tongue. Ingrid shows lack of knowledge about show business; it was obviously her first time on a film set. She was auditioning to take over Edie's role in her film, as the director and producer did not want Edie to star any longer because of her hunger for fame. Although they don't look much alike, Andy Warhol cites that Edie and Ingrid look like sisters. This is probably just to taunt Edie. Much like her portrayer, Edie states that she doesn't "do the heavy stuff" (drink, drugs, etcetera etcetera), although she may just be doing this to impress Andy and the producers.

Mary Quotes

• "That role was thrown in at the last minute. They were in reshoots, and it was Harvey Weinstein...I've done a lot of his films. And he just was like, "Bring Mary in and see if she'll do a day on this show and do this role." And so they asked me if I'd do it."

• "I listened to the real Ingrid Superstar, whose voice is pretty different than mine, so I didn't really try to match that. (does the voice) "Because she has this sort of high pitched New Jersey accent." So I didn't want to be quite that grating on the ears. So I did my own version of it, and it was so much fun to be that outside of myself and play someone who's so different."

Memorable Quotes

(auditioning for Edie Sedgwick's role) Ingrid Superstar: "You know I've never done nothing like this before, but--"
Brigid Polk: "Just be like Edie."
Andy Warhol: "Except the part where she takes too many drugs."
Brigid Polk: (giggling) "Is there another part?"

• Andy Warhol: "I think Edie and Ingrid look like sisters."
Edie Segdwick: "Andy, she doesn't look anything like me."
Ingrid Superstar: (mocking; imitating Edie) "Andy, she doesn't look anything like me."
Brigid Polk: "Oh, the resemblance is uncanny."

Facts & Trivia

• Mary was personally offered the role of Ingrid Superstar by Harvey Weinstein during reshoots. As they are good friends, she agreed to the part and was brought in the next day.

Our Reviews

The story of Edie Sedgwick is a true american tradgedy and Factory Girl does make you feel very saddened towards her. Sienna Miller plays Edie just perfectly and she is one of the only things in the film that suceeds. One of the main errors is that the film is hardly historically correct, as it says it to be. Despite the films flaws, it makes you feel like you know Edie now and you do have a certain sense of care for her and a hatred towards Andy. The film has too many ups and downs to be considered anything more than average.

Dedicated and committed Sienna Miller was probably one of the only things Factory Girl had going for it. Her portrayal of IT girl Edie Sedgwick was unwavering and even frightfully convincing. It was like seeing Ms. Sedgwick herself. Nevertheless, colossal-sized plot holes and historical flaws brought this film down faster than a falling superstar. Guy Pearce was arguably the wrong pick for the role, but at least succeeded in making Andy Warhol a hated character. These weaknesses lead to the film's degradation within each passing minute.

"As a bio-pic, Factory Girl is limited, but as a snapshot of Sedgwick and Warhol's fiery relationship, there is much to fascinate us."

"Spoilt, rich, posh, vacuous and fame-obsessed - who better to play Edie Sedgwick? If she's acting or not, Miller is brilliant. Just a shame the film is so shallow too."

"As a biography of Edie Sedgwick, it's pretty near worthless, but as an evocation of both the glamour and the horror of the Factory, it's as seductive as Andy himself. "

"Sienna Miller is perfectly cast but the script barely scratches the surface and you never really get inside any of the characters."
